A nursing home in Trumbull was evacuated because of a water issue at the Genesis St. Joseph's Center facility on Main Street.
The town of Trumbull says the fire marshal and emergency management officials were still on scene Thursday morning assessing the situation. Police cars that had blocked the entrance have now left.
The Connecticut Department of Public Health notified the Town of Trumbull Wednesday afternoon that it is investigating a water issue.
All residents were safely evacuated as of 10:42 a.m. Thursday, according to officials.
Late Wednesday night, 187 patients were transported to other nursing homes in the area. Another 116 patients were moved as of early Thursday morning.
Officials have not given a time frame as to when the issue will be resolved.
A viewer sent in pictures, saying the facility is falling apart. The viewer says the facility has been without water for about a week and that employees can't give residents a proper shower. The viewer also says there are many leaks in the facility, including in the chapel, the employee dining room and the laundry room. These leaks have been there for years, according to the viewer.
Genesis St. Joseph's Center says on its website that it has been serving Trumbull for over 50 years with independent senior living and long-term care.
The town and Connecticut Department of Public Health made the decision to evacuate the Genesis St. Joseph's Center facility to protect the health and well-being of all residents in the facility. Local and state officials were on site to help with the evacuation. Officials say the facility's Teresian Towers and Carmel Ridge are not impacted.
News 12 Connecticut reached out to the facility for comment but has been unable to get a statement.
Anyone who is concerned about a loved one at the facility can call 203-268-6204.
