A strong nor'easter is soaking Brooklyn this morning with steady rain and strong wind gusts making for a messy start to the week.
The National Weather Service has a Coastal Flood Warning and Wind Advisory in effect through Monday afternoon. Forecasters say wind gusts could reach up to 50 miles per hour, and areas near the shoreline could see moderate flooding, especially around the next high tide, which is expected around 1:45 p.m.
Gov. Kathy Hochul has declared a State of Emergency for New York City, Long Island, and Westchester, saying state crews are ready to help local officials respond to flooding or storm damage if needed.
Across the city, crews have been clearing drains and checking low-lying areas that tend to flood during heavy rain. The MTA says it’s keeping an eye on the subways and bus routes in case any water builds up along tracks or roads.
Officials are reminding drivers to take it slow, avoid flooded streets, and move cars to higher ground if you live near the water.
By late Monday evening, the storm is expected to move out — but the morning and afternoon commutes could still be a challenge with wet, windy conditions across Brooklyn.
