A Mount Vernon man is set to be arraigned today after allegedly shooting another man during an argument that spilled off a B-Line bus onto busy Yonkers Avenue.
"He was bleeding on his arm, and it looked like a gunshot. He was yelling on the phone, 'I just got shot,'" says Mr. Rios who was walking by the area not long after the shooting.
The incident happened late Monday morning when the bus stopped at Yonkers Avenue and Vernon Avenue. Police say the two men exited and continued arguing.
Police say Levar Dimmie, 48, of Mount Vernon fired a single shot, striking 36-year-old Daniel Pena, of Yonkers in the arm.
Dimmie then ran off, according to police.
Officers apprehended Dimmie about 10 minutes later on Bronx River Road. Police also found a handgun.
“I commend the swift and professional actions of our patrol officers in apprehending this suspect and securing the scene. The collaborative efforts of our patrol officers, detectives, and Crime Scene Unit were crucial in this investigation. We will continue to work tirelessly to hold those who commit acts of violence accountable," says Yonkers Police Commissioner Chris Sapienza.
Dimmie faces one count of assault in the first degree and one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
Pena was taken to the hospital. At last check, he was in stable condition.
Neighbors in the area tell News 12, the violence has them on edge.
"Very surprising, that caught me off guard," says Adam Young, who lives nearby.
The cause of the dispute remains unclear.
