The Rockland County District Attorney has issued a warning regarding an ongoing scam where individuals are being misled by fake IRS communications.
Authorities have highlighted a specific email scam where recipients receive messages claiming they are eligible for a $1,400 Economic Impact Statement. These emails originate from a Hotmail address, not from a secure government email, and include links to nonexistent websites.
The DA emphasizes that the IRS will never contact taxpayers via email or social media platforms to request personal information.
In addition, the MTA has alerted the public about another scam involving text messages from a sender labeled "NY Toll Services." These messages falsely claim to collect tolls for congestion pricing in the city.
The MTA clarifies that E-Z Pass NY never requires customers to click on a link to make payments.
