The storm bringing wintry weather to southern states tonight looks to zip to our south sparring New Jersey any wintry mess to clean up.
While winter weather aficionados like yours truly would have loved for an opportunity at more accumulating snow, the overall pattern prohibits the wintry weather from turning up the coast and onto New Jersey.
Cold/dry air continues its dominance over the state this winter. Blustery winds will continue into tonight. The temperature will be in the single digits and low teens. Any kind of breeze will make it feel 10 above to 5 below around daybreak.
Early sunshine will fade behind building clouds from this southern sliding storm. Daily highs will range from the upper-20s in the highlands of northern New Jersey to around 30 degrees elsewhere. The weather is breezy and dry for Wednesday.
Thursday has been exaggerated by some on social media as "The biggest storm yet this winter!" I'm sorry for the misleading hype from those who are looking for likes and shares. It does nothing but spread misinformation and gives the science of meteorology a bad name.
While there will be passing snow showers, New Jersey will miss out on the lion’s share of accumulating snow. That will stay in Maryland, Delaware and Virginia. Yet again those southern states are out-producing us in wintery weather this season. Most of the snow in New Jersey should stay south of the Atlantic City Expressway. Occasional snow showers will swing through the rest of the state during the afternoon. The worst-case scenario would be a quick coating. Not an impactful winter event at all.
The weather will remain on the chilly side through the rest of the week into Saturday. Saturday night there could be a few passing snow showers. Sunday will be partly sunny and seasonable. Temps rebound back to the low and mid-40s. After this stretch of a late February chill, getting the temps back to where they should be will feel very comfortable. Signs are pointing to a warmup next week for those of you who have grown weary of winter's chill. Stay tuned.
