The main weather threat for the rest of the week is this ferocious cold. Temperatures are awful, and they feel even worse with the wind. We are looking at temperatures over the next several days that will feel as if they are between 0 and -10 degrees. This is immensely dangerous if you are not bundled up and limiting time outside.
Also on the weather horizon is the chance for a strong nor'easter. How close will it be? The latest computer guidance has several options, with one scenario keeping the storm well offshore but leaving the city on the eastern fringe of the storm. Meanwhile, another scenario brings the storm slightly closer to the city with a chance of light snow. There’s still a lot of uncertainty with the timing, track and potential impacts.
If the storm moves closer to NYC, the winds and coastal impacts during high tide and a full moon will be a bigger concern compared to the snow. There's still time for the storm to shift back and forth over the next few days. We'll continue to watch and keep you up to date with the latest.
We're on day five of sub-freezing temperatures. We’re locked into this arctic air mass through next week. This will be the longest stretch of sub-freezing temperatures since 2018, which lasted nine days. The record is 16 days, set back in 1961. Temperatures will be in the 30s through next week.
