WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
A blizzard warning and a winter storm warning have has been issued across New Jersey.
The forecast has escalated significantly as the National Weather Service has upgraded the situation to a blizzard warning for several coastal and northeastern New Jersey counties, effective from 6 a.m. Sunday through 6 p.m. Monday, while much of the remaining interior remains under a Winter Storm Warning. Conditions will take a sharp turn for the worse after 3 p.m. as gusty winds and heavier snowfall begin to make travel difficult across the state.
The most dangerous period is expected between 11 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday, when the storm reaches its peak intensity. During this window, snow rates of 1–2" per hour combined with wind gusts up to 55 mph particularly along the Jersey Shore and near the Hudson will create treacherous conditions where plows may struggle to keep up, posing a high risk of drivers becoming stranded. While the snow will begin to taper slightly after 7 a.m. on Monday, travel will remain tough throughout the day due to significant blowing snow and drifting. Total accumulations are currently projected at 12–18" for most of the state, 18-24" for the hardest hit areas between Long Branch & Toms River, with 8–12" expected further inland and to the south; while subtle shifts in the track are possible, we are locked in for a major impact event across the region.
