A blizzard warning is in effect for the entire region. Our snow map range now includes the possibility of up to 2 feet of snow. The range of 16-24" has been moved further inland, to include all of Rockland, Putnam, into Dutchess and Orange Counties.
Blizzard Conditions Expected Tonight into Monday
The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for the entire region which is in effect through Monday 6 p.m. Monday. Blizzard conditions will bring less than a quarter mile of visibility due to blowing snow tonight through Monday morning.
Major Travel Delays Expected, Prepare for Power Outages
12 to 24 inches of snow is expected in the Hudson Valley, with the highest totals setting up in Rockland and Westchester counties. There is the potential for snowfall rates of 1-3" per hour during the height of the storm. This would allow the storm to just dump a ton of snow quickly, making road conditions go from treacherous to impossible.
Wind-driven snow will bring scattered power outages tonight and Monday morning. Winds will gust 40 to 50+ mph during this time and the weight of the snow could knock down trees and powerlines.
Thundersnow is also a concern. It is a low chance but still possible for coastal areas of Westchester County.
Major travel delays are expected all day Sunday and Monday. The storm is coming in from the south so this will likely delay flights starting Sunday morning before the weather deteriorates locally. Conditions improve Monday evening, but the effect on travel likely will linger into Tuesday.
Storm Timing:
This morning will be mostly cloudy with scattered snow showers and a wintry mix. Some roads may be snow-covered by noon, but generally light snow is expected in the morning. Conditions deteriorate after 5 p.m. and blizzard conditions are expected to arrive after 9 p.m. tonight through Monday morning.
Stray snow showers could linger into Monday afternoon, but the bulk of the snow from this storm will fall overnight tonight into Monday morning.
