        Shoppers hit Downtown Brooklyn retailers to return unwanted holiday gifts

        Within the next couple of weeks, shoppers will be running around trying to return those gifts before its too late — and some retailers have some return dates quickly approaching.

        Shoppers went to retail stores in Downtown Brooklyn Thursday to exchange or return unwanted holiday gifts.
        This pattern of consumers, however, is a costly one. The National Retail Federation estimates that returns will cost the industry $890 billion in 2024.
        Nearly 17% of retail's annual sales will be returned. That number spikes an extra 17% during the holiday season.
        Within the next couple of weeks, shoppers will be running around trying to return those gifts before it's too late — and some retailers have some return dates quickly approaching.
        If purchased during the holiday season, Apple, Amazon and Walmart all require customers to make those returns in January.
        Some stores, like Kohls and Target, give customers a little more wiggle room.
