As the New Year approaches, several new state laws are set to take effect in New York.
The minimum wage in Westchester, New York City, and Long Island will increase by 50 cents to $16.50 per hour. In the rest of the state, the minimum wage will be $15.50 per hour.
The Equal Rights Amendment will be added to the state constitution, protecting individuals from discrimination based on sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, or gender identity. This amendment was voted on by New Yorkers in this year's election.
Despite legal challenges, New York City's congestion pricing plan is moving forward. Starting next Sunday, drivers will be charged at least $9 to enter Manhattan below 60th Street during peak hours.
