The Red Cross said five families, including 11 children, were displaced after a two-alarm fire inside an apartment building Saturday afternoon in Mott Haven.

“Where are we going to end up tonight?” said Kevin Padilla, who lived in the building.

Padilla said his family’s apartment was destroyed in the fire at the five-story building located on East 141st Street between Crimmins and Beekman avenues.

“[I] grabbed the dog,” said Serenity, Padilla’s daughter. “I was very scared!”

The FDNY said the fire started around 1 p.m. inside a wall on the second floor.

“All I heard was ‘run, run, run,” said another resident who only identified himself as R.T. “Then the firefighters knocked on my door.”

News 12 was told firefighters and EMS from multiple units responded to the scene.

“[I] came downstairs, looked up, I saw the smoke coming out of the building,” R.T. said.

Padilla said he is worried about his personal belongings -- but more importantly, his family.

“My daughter and my mom. That’s what I worry about,” Padilla said.

The FDNY said three firefighters suffered minor injuries.

It was not immediately clear what sparked the fire.
