A former fire chief on Friday helped a person trapped in their car escape further danger following a rollover crash in Bethel.
It happened just after 8:30 p.m. on Old Hawleyville Road. Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Company and along with Bethel Fire and EMS responded to a reported rollover with a fire and a person trapped.
Before Bethel fire arrived, the driver was able to remove themselves with help from Stony Hill first responders, including Stony Hill's past chief Tony Rubino who was nearby at his home.
When crews arrived, they realize the blue sedan was not on fire but positioned between a broken power pole and guide wires.
It's not clear what caused the rollover. The driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
