A Franklin Square nonprofit held a garage sale to pay for home improvement projects for people with disabilities.
The group Rescuing Families said its mission is to help make people's lives easier by adding accessible features, like ramps, to homes.
"We have two big projects. One in Valley Stream is for a disabled young man, and the next renovation after that, we're going to be renovating the local VFW here in Franklin Square to give our vets a place they can enjoy and feel at home again," said Vincent Centauro, founder of Rescuing Families.
The group has helped nine Long Island families to date.
