The Borough Park community was out in full effect Sunday as the FDNY Engine 282/Ladder 148, lit a ceremonial Menorah for the fifth night of Hanukkah.
The event focused on celebrating the Jewish community in the area. The event also highlighted fire safety during an event that had many who participate lighting live candles, including Rabbi Joseph Potasnik, and members of the FDNY Ner Tamid Society, who led the service.
"We of course would prefer that light be a electric one, but if you are using a flame, be sure to be mindful of where it is being stored in the home, so that we do not have loss of property, or even worse, loss of life," said First Deputy Commissioner Mark Guerra.
An electronic Menorah is also prominently displayed outside of the firehouse and will remain there until the duration of the Jewish holiday.
