2h agoWater was restored for most Edison residents Saturday after crews worked on repairing the water main break.
Edison Mayor Sam Joshi told News 12 that out of the 20,000 households and businesses impacted, 99% have had their water restored.
The water main was expected to be repaired by Thursday morning. The mayor said the delay was caused by a number of issues, including 80-year-old pipes and valves.
"There’s a number of different things that went wrong, but keep in mind, they are 10 to 15 feet below ground in freezing temperatures,” Joshi said.
The mayor extended the boil water advisory for another day and said facilities being used to distribute water would remain open until the advisory was lifted.
More than 7,000 gallons of water have been provided to over 3,500 families. But there's more to go around.
Many businesses along Route 27 had to remain closed for the day after Christmas on Wednesday and some on Thursday.
