A Bridgeport community activist and member of the city's Democratic Town Committee was arrested early Saturday morning, police say.
Officials say Tony Barr was involved in a single-vehicle crash on Chopsey Hill Road around 4:30 a.m.
Barr is accused of assaulting a lieutenant in the Bridgeport Fire Department, punching them in the face and closing the glove compartment on their hand, according to authorities.
Officials say the lieutenant was evaluated, treated at a hospital and later released.
Barr was charged with traveling at an unreasonable speed for conditions, interfering with police and assault on a public safety officer.
Barr was held on a $10,000 bond.
