For the first time in over 10 years, the PATH fare is increasing – riders now must pay 25-cents more, bringing a one-way fare to $3.
The inflation-based fare adjustment started Sunday. Multi-trip fares will also be adjusted.
Port Authority officials say the fare will compensate for the $3 billion loss from the pandemic.
Extra funds will be used for improvements at the Hoboken station, for significant track and station upgrades.
Discounts will be available for some. Seniors will pay $1.50 per ride.
Some riders at the Hoboken station say the increasing price is expected. Others want to know exactly where the money is going.
"Post it on the website or somewhere,” said one rider. "It can minimize the questions."
Some travelers will have to find alternative routes at the end of the month. Starting Jan. 30 to Feb. 25, the PATH Hoboken station will be closed.
There will be public information sessions this month to give riders more information.
