Police identified 19-year-old Chase Lackard as the man who was arrested and charged in connection with Friday’s officer-involved shooting in Soundview.

Sources tell News 12 that the teen is the son of Mount Vernon Deputy Police Commissioner Jennifer Lackard.

The NYPD said officers responded to some sort of fight involving a gun at the Stevenson Commons near Lafeyette and Underhill avenues.

Police said they came face-to-face with Lackard, who was holding a loaded, 9 mm gun.

“The perpetrator sees the car,” said NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell during Friday’s news conference. “He takes a shooting stance, takes his gun out of his waist. Our officers defend themselves.”

Investigators said officers shot the Soundview teen twice in the leg. Lackard was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

Chell said the suspect has a criminal background, including a gun arrest in September.

“We have someone walking around the community of the Bronx, in the Soundview section with a loaded semiautomatic weapon, who was arrested three months ago on the streets of Manhattan and indicted,” said Chell. “This probably shouldn’t have happened.”

As News 12 reported in Jan. 2023, Lackard was 17 years old when he was shot in the chest during an apparent gang-related fight on an MTA bus in Soundview.

News 12 reached out to a spokesperson for the City of Mount Vernon, who said the city’s mayor is calling this “a personal matter and we are praying for the family.”

News 12 was also told that Deputy Commissioner Lackard has no comment at this time.
