The end of an era. That's what some in Putnam County are saying about the closing of the Carmel Cinema.
"It has been here since I was little, use to have birthday parties here," says Putnam County resident Sean Iglthaler.
It's not just the pictures on the screen that draws people into the Carmel Cinema, it's the memories that bring them back.
"We use to come here a lot because it's the closest and it's cheap," says Rachel Dibartolo who lives in Mahopac.
However, for these families, the final bow is here.
After 15 years in business, the theater is closing next week.
"It's really horrible, there's nothing to do in this neighborhood," says Putnam County resident Elliot Rivera.
Many people in Carmel and beyond, don't want it to close.
In fact, an online petition to save the theater garnered more than 3,000 signatures.
People who signed it say there isn't another theater nearby and it's a big part of the community.
"We don't drive, we're disabled. It's very hard if they close down, the other theatre is 30-45 minutes away," says Bernadette, from Patterson.
Owners of the theater haven't confirmed with News 12 why it's closing.
They took to social media to thank their loyal customers.
The theater's Facebook page says the last day is May 27.
"We're going to go one last time and that's it," says Dibartolo.
