The Long Island Coalition for the Homeless was out on the streets Tuesday night to help people with nowhere to go during the cold temperatures.
"I'm worried about dying...it's supposed to get worse." said Ray, a homeless man who spoke with News 12 in Brentwood Tuesday night about surviving in the frigid temperatures. Ray is one of the many people out in the cold being checked on by the nonprofit. "The end game through the winter is keeping everyone healthy and alive, until we can find housing." said Erin Tittmann with the Coalition's Street Outreach Team. Local leaders say residents can also turn to their town for help.
"If they're aware of any homeless people or anybody that's in need of social services, they can contact any government office, anywhere." said Huntington Town Supervisor Ed Smyth/
