Lawmakers in Rockland County have approved an expansion of a law aimed at helping volunteer emergency responders and their families.
The Jared Lloyd Act, named after the Spring Valley firefighter who died in a 2021 blaze at an assisted living facility, will now offer up to $1 million in support to families of firefighters, EMS workers, auxiliary police and hazmat teams.
The measure was passed to honor Lloyd's legacy and extend benefits to more first responders, and their surviving loved ones, according to officials.
