The Connecticut Siting Council announced Thursday that it will deny the controversial United Illuminating monopole project plan.
Five council members voted against and three members voted to approve it.
The plan would have called for UI to build poles up to 145 feet tall in Fairfield and Bridgeport. Local officials had asked that those lines be built underground.
UI has repeatedly said that building lines underground would add half a billion dollars to the cost of the project.
News 12 has reached out to UI for a statement and is waiting to hear back.
