Welcome back. The race for the 28th State Senate District has been a close one. That's right. We have heard earlier from incumbent Tony Wong. Uh but it wasn't an acceptance speech or wasn't a concession speech. So let's find out what's going on there. Let's check in with our Justin deve Justin. Yeah, Becky, we're here with the state Senator Tony Huang right now. Joining us live, just wrapped up, speaking to, you know, your campaign and your supporters. Did you declare victory tonight? No, we're not certain until we get the early voting, but regardless of what the results are, we're very encouraged, the people of the 28 district won today over politics. What I mean by that is that I'm so proud of the campaign that we ran based upon providing solutions on affordability, on maintaining a sense of quality of life in our communities. And we talked about real solutions based upon our achievements, our experience and our collaboration. And I think that positive message in the tone and the rhetoric and divisiveness of the national debate that has crept into our state and local politics, people have spoken loud and clear that they want solutions. They don't want bickering and they don't want politics as usual. And we, we spoke a little bit, you know, earlier. Uh when do you think this race is going to be called? Well, I think just as a national election, the early voting and the tabulation and I respect that all of our poll workers and thank them for their work, but ultimately, they wanted to get it right. And I am more than happy to be patient to ensure that every vote is counted and that every validation is in place. But nevertheless, I'm going to repeat again, I'm privileged to be the state senator for these past years. And the, the national if not, the statewide notoriety of this campaign has been one positive is the fact that it has raised our record for comparison and investigation. And I'm proud that my accomplishments, my real practice of practicing people before politics and a sense of belonging and being part of a community does matter to voters. And I'm proud of that. We maintained a positive campaign despite the gas lighting, the disinformation and the manipulative narrative that has been so pervasive in our campaign environment. It has turned people off and I'm grateful that our positive message that says we're part of the community, we're your friends, your neighbors and that with kindness and resolve that we can create better solutions, therefore, creating a better quality of life for the people we represent. So again, the people won over politics and I couldn't be happier about that race hasn't been called yet. Right? You didn't declare victory, you're looking at the numbers, you're, you're feeling good. Uh If you do end up retaining your seat, winning this race, how big of a win is that for Republicans and, and for the people here tonight? Well, I think ultimately I'm going to repeat again, this is a win for the people that we represent. The early voting. And the incredible robust turnout of, of people represents a celebration of our civics and democracy in voting participation. And to have that plurality of people vote and to offer their support if nothing else can be gained from this. It's a powerful message that people want solutions in their public service. When I talk about gas lighting, disinformation and manipulative narratives, it's not only hurtful in the form of bullying that trends itself to mental health as well as dangerous behaviors. It erodes the public trust in government in public service when it can be a tool to help people's lives be better. But ultimately, I think again, the people won today against politics as usual and I hope it's a resonating message that we continue now, a new beginning to represent the people based upon solutions and actions rather than labels and manipulation. Well, let's head now to the 28th State Senate district race in Fairfield between incumbent Tony Wong and Democrat Rob Blanchard. Big race. All right. News twelve's Justin Dees is in Fairfield for us tonight covering the race, Justin Becky to quote the great Phil Collins. You can feel it in the air tonight. The buzz is palpable campaign staff behind me bringing in signs here at local kitchen and beer bar. This is where the Fairfield Republican town committee is hoping State Senator Tony Wong can retain his seat in the increasingly blue. 28 district Wang has been in the general assembly for over a decade, but some people believe this is his toughest challenge to date. Democrat Rob Blanchard, a former governor Lamont administration official has come out swinging, running on a platform of being a fresh voice for voters. He's taken Huang to task on things like gun safety, abortion cuts for the middle class. The state senator meanwhile has accused Blanchard of gas lighting and spreading misinformation. So this race has gotten contentious dare. I say feisty would be a huge win for Democrats because they would essentially control the town government here. We're going to hear more from the two candidates coming up later. That's the latest right now here in Fairfield, Mark Becky. Back to you.
