HEAT ALERT: Heat index values up to 100 expected today in the Bronx with poor air quality

A heat advisory is in effect through 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Here’s what you need to know:
  • A HEAT ADVISORY is in effect through 8 p.m. Wednesday. Dangerous heat and humidity is expected over the next few days. Heat index values up to 104 is expected today.
  • An AIR QUALITY ALERT is in effect 11 a.m. through 11 p.m. This is for ground level ozone, not wildfire smoke. The high heat and humidity will elevate pollutant levels at the surface. People in sensitive groups should avoid strenuous outdoor activities and seek air conditioning.
  • It's a warm and muggy start to the day under a mostly sunny sky. Temperatures are in the upper-70s.
  • Today will be another stifling day with hot temperatures and loads of sunshine. Highs will be in the mid- to upper-90s. The record high is 99 degrees setback in 1949. Heat index values over 100 are expected this afternoon and evening.
  • Our second potential heat wave of the season is on the way. Tomorrow will be day three of potentially 90-degree temperatures. Feel-like temperatures will be in the triple digits. The extreme heat breaks tomorrow night as pop-up strong storms move into the borough.
  • There's an isolated risk for severe weather. Downpours, damaging winds and frequent lightning are the impacts.
  • Temperatures fall back to the 80s but humidity remains on Thursday. There's another chance of slow-moving storms Thursday midday through the evening. There's a medium risk of localized flooding. Up to an inch of rainfall possible with locally higher amounts through Friday morning.
  • Humidity lowers on Friday with below-normal temperatures in the 70s as we welcome August. Some showers could linger for the morning commute. We're welcoming the first weekend of August with sunshine and comfortably warm temperatures.

Friday: Hello August! Chance of lingering morning showers. Gradual improvement, warm and pleasant. Highs near 77. Lows near 63.
