HEAT ALERT: Record-breaking heat possible Wednesday in the Hudson Valley

Heat advisory in effect for Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam, Dutchess, eastern Ulster counties until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Temperatures will get into the low to mid-90s, but when the humidity is factored in, it could feel in the 100-105 degrees range. This high level of heat could impact the very young, the elderly and anyone with serious heart and/or breathing issues. It is recommended for everyone to avoid long periods of time outside, especially in direct sunlight and to seek cool places, like a home with working air conditioning to stay comfortable.
  • Wednesday afternoon has a cold front slowly approaching the area. It will try to fire up showers and storms ahead of its arrival.
  • Some of those storms could turn strong to severe and if they do, they could produce damaging wind gusts and small hail. The front sinks slowly through the region Thursday, firing up more storms in the afternoon to evening hours.
  • By the weekend, we have some glorious weather moving in, especially for Saturday.
OVERNIGHT: Clear skies, stuffy air. Lows: mid 60s to mid-70s.
WEDNESDAY: HEAT ALERT - Mostly sunny, with an increase in clouds later in the day. There will be a chance for afternoon showers and storms. It will still feel muggy out. RECORD: 95 (1949). Highs: mid-90s. Lows: low 70s.
THURSDAY: STORM WATCH (Evening) - Mostly cloudy, with scattered showers and storms. Some could bring torrential downpours. Highs: low 80s. Lows: mid-60s.
FRIDAY: AUG. 1 - Mostly cloudy skies, with morning rain showers fading to a mix of sun and clouds. Highs: low 70s. Lows: upper 50s to low 60s.
SATURDAY: Pick of the Week - Mainly sunny. Highs: upper 70s to low 80s. Lows: upper 50s to low 60s.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs: low 80s. Lows: upper 50s to low 60s.
