The owl was too large for crews to remove him through the damper opening and could not expand his wings to fly out on his own, according to authorities.

A trapped owl was rescued by firefighters in Fairfield Tuesday.
The large owl was stuck inside a chimney of a home on Fairfield Woods Road.
Firefighters say the owl fell down the chimney shaft and became lodged above the damper.
The owl was too large for crews to remove him through the damper opening and could not expand his wings to fly out on his own, according to authorities.
Crews used a rope and personal floatation device to create an "owl elevator" to rescue the owl.
Once at the top of the chimney, the owl was able to spread its wings and flew to a nearby tree.
Fairfield Animal control officials confirmed the owl did not require medical attention.
