Over 100 children battling cancer and other life-threatening illness got to experience a day of fun at the American Dream Mall on Tuesday, all thanks to Camp Simcha.
Chai Lifeline's flagship program, Camp Simcha, is up and running this summer.
Over 1,000 kids across the country are involved in programming - from Los Angeles to Baltimore to New York.
For eight weeks, children attend camp in different sessions. The regional camp this session is for girls facing cancer and blood disorders.
"It is absolutely a life-changing experience for each of them, as they are going through the difficulties and challenges each of them have to face," said head counselor Rivky Zuckerman.
Over 100 girls explored the American Dream Mall, from the shops to Nickelodeon Universe. They got free ice cream, toys and had fun on the rides.
"First, I went to a roller coaster, then I went to Sephora," said 10-year-old camper Lielle Goldman. "So glad I came."
In addition to the trained counselors, there are sophisticated medical resources. Kids are taken care of and can continue their treatments.
Outings, like the one at American Dream, are supported by the medical team, and every child is able to participate safely.
A mom from Lakewood wasn't sure about sending her 4-year-old daughter.
"She needed to have a lot of hard chemos yesterday, and she was really not feeling well, and she turns toward me in the car and says, 'Ma, as soon as I get back to Camp Simcha I'll feel all better,'" said Chayala Nussbaum.
It's not only during camp - but throughout the year - that her family feels supported.
"This journey has been difficult and I don't think we would've made it through without Chai Lifeline," said Nussbaum.
Chai Lifeline provides camp, as well as all their services, at no cost to families - thanks to communities around the globe.
