It was a close call in the Bronx on Friday morning after an MTA BxM1 bus was left hanging off an overpass near Henry Hudson Parkway and Kappock Street.

The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. when the bus driver allegedly tried to maneuver around a car that was parked incorrectly near the curve, according to eyewitnesses. Cristian Torralba, who saw the crash, described hearing a loud noise before the bus hit the wall.

“I came out of my car to help,” said Torralba. “I was signaling for him to back up, but then I turned my back, and he went straight into the wall.”

The impact left the left front wheel of the bus dangling over the edge, sending debris onto the street and sidewalk below. Fortunately, no cars or pedestrians were in the area at the time.

Fire crews arrived quickly and secured the bus to prevent it from falling. They also rescued the driver, who was not injured.

Transit union members say this incident highlights the need for improved parking regulations near the curve, where the crash occurred.

“We would love for DOT to eliminate those two parking spots so buses can turn freely without any problems,” said Marcus Soler, a transit union member.

The MTA says the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
