More than 2 feet of snow has fallen in Suffolk County. Islip reported it's biggest snowstorm on record. The previous record was 27.8", but as of this afternoon 28" of snow has fallen. This surpasses the blizzard of 1978 and Blizzard of 2013

Blizzard conditions through this afternoon

A blizzard warning for Long Island is in effect from now through 6 p.m. The heavy bands of snow are starting to taper off to light to some moderate snow. Am additional 1 to 3 inches of snow will fall through 3pm. This afternoon the snow will taper off west to east and we could have some sunny breaks by the late afternoon. Travel is not recommended with poor visibility from blowing and drifting snow. It will be cold with highs 33 to 35 and wind chills in the teens.

Major travel delays expected, power outages and more coastal flooding possible

Wind-driven snow will bring damage to trees and powerlines through this afternoon. Winds will gust 35 to 55 mph during the day and taper off towards this evening.
Major travel delays can linger into Tuesday. High snow amounts and blowing and drifting snow could be as high as 5 feet, and it will take time to remove all of the snow to make the roads safe and to restore any power outages.
Coastal flooding is an issue with this storm during the high tide cycles between noon and 6 p.m. Coastal flood advisory is in effect for the shorelines. Cars should already be moved in these areas.

TODAY: Blizzard conditions. Dangerous travel conditions. Stay off roads. Snow, mainly before 4 p.m. Areas of blowing snow. High near 33. Wind chill values between 15 and 20 degrees. Windy, with a northwest wind 30 to 55 mph decreasing to 30 to 40 mph by this evening.
TONIGHT: A few early snow showers possible. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 21. Wind chill values between 10 and 15. Blustery, with a northwest wind 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 30. West wind 10 to 20 mph.
WEDNESDAY: The potential of more snow. Rain and snow likely, becoming all rain after 10am, then gradually ending. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 39. Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
