8 a.m. Update
Generally 2-4 inches of snow on the island. An additional 1 to 2 inches is on the way before snow tapers off at noontime.
Temperatures are near or slightly above freezing but will drop throughout the morning leaving a crusty snow and layer of ice on top of a fluffier snowpack.
Storm Timing & Impacts
Steady, accumulating snow is expected until 8 a.m. for Nassau County and until noon for parts Suffolk County. Our forecast is on target for a general 3 to 6 inches across the island, but a few neighborhoods could be outside of this range.
The afternoon is dry, but very cold and windy. Afternoon temperatures will drop into the mid 20s with wind chills in the teens. Clear off your snow because it will turn into a solid layer of ice later today.
Overnight Forecast
Arctic air rushes in overnight. Temperatures will drop into the mid teens across the island, perhaps colder in spots, with wind chills between 0F and 10F on Monday morning. Expect gusty winds up to 30 mph.
Monday
Mostly sunny and very cold. Winds 15-25 mph early, diminishing in the evening. Highs in the upper 20s, but wind chill values in the low to mid teens all day. Overnight lows near 20F.
Tuesday
Cold and clear early, then a few afternoon clouds. High temperatures only near 30F with wind chills in the low 20s. Overnight lows in the upper 20s
Wednesday
Breezy, with a mix of sun and clouds. Less cold in the afternoon. Highs near 40 with wind gusts 20 to 30 mph. Overnight lows in the upper 20s.
Thursday
Cold to start, with temperatures rising throughout the day. Mostly cloudy during the day, then rain showers arrive in the evening. Afternoon temperatures in the 40s rising into the upper 40s by midnight.
Friday
Breezy with morning rain showers, then clearing later in the day. Morning temperatures in the upper 40s, afternoon temperatures in the mid 40s.
