A 102-inch water main break caused a sinkhole leading to a vehicle being pulled in and a driver having to be rescued.

Wayne Township officials tell News 12 New Jersey's Tony Caputo the water main break, that happened in an industrial park on Demarest Drive between West Belt Highway and Fairfield Road Thursday night, is a 102-inch feeder line.

The main carries water from the Pompton River to the Wannaque Reservoir about eight miles away.

When it broke, water from the reservoir began back filling creating a river of water on Demarest Drive.

That led to the driver of the vehicle getting caught in that water.

Firefighters extended a ladder from one of their trucks in a nearby parking lot, kept it just above the flood waters and connected it to the driver's side door in order to rescue the person inside the vehicle. The driver is OK, News 12 has been told.

Nobody is without water service since this is a feeder line used to transport water and was not yet potable.
