TODAY: STORM WATCH: BRIEF WINTRY MIX THEN WET AND COLD
A period of wintry mix and rain will develop across Long Island between around 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. from west to east. Most of Long Island will start as plain rain, but a brief period of snow or wintry mix is possible for around an hour or so to start. This is more likely to happen for areas north of the Long Island Expressway. This can cause a quick slushy coating of snow before quickly changing to plain rain, but mixing should be minimal overall. Please just use caution throughout the day with wet roads. Melting snow and rain can cause large puddles.
Periods of light to moderate rain through the day. Have the warm jacket and umbrella handy. The rain will continue through 6am on Wednesday. The weather improves Wednesday afternoon with sunny breaks and highs in the mid and upper 40s.
ADDITIONAL WET WEATHER THIS WEEK
THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy, with spotty light rain.
FRIDAY: Steady, moderate rain through the morning commute. Drier weather developing for the afternoon.
POTHOLE PROBLEMS
Potholes can be more difficult to see filled with water and there will be larger puddles around at times this week due to rain chances and more melting snow. Potholes can always be a problem this time of year, especially with daytime warming above freezing and overnight refreezing some nights. If you notice any trouble spots near you, please continue to let News 12 know.
DECENT WEATHER DAYS THIS WEEK
The weekend will also be warmer, with temperatures in the upper 40s to mid-50s, but with limited sun and a spotty shower chance each day. The trend into the beginning of next week features highs in the mid and upper 50s.
DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME BEGINS SUNDAY
This is a reminder to "spring forward" one hour on Sunday morning at 2 a.m. Sunrise on Sunday morning will be at 7:15 a.m. and sunset will be at 6:51 p.m.
WARMER TEMPERATURE TREND
The month of March can be up-and-down weather-wise on Long Island. While some chillier days, again, cannot rule out later this month, the next 10 days look relatively warmer overall. As of Monday night, the forecast high temperatures are in the 50s from Saturday through at least next Wednesday. The South Shore and East End can stay several degrees cooler with breezes off the water.
