Showers and storms are on their way into the borough. Flash flooding remains the greatest concern for this evening, but scattered severe and potentially destructive weather is also possible.

Gusty winds, power problems, small hail, damaging wind, downpours and lightning are all possible. This could occur during the evening commute, making for dangerous driving, walking, and subway riding conditions.

The borough remains at a high flash flood risk for tonight and a low flash flood risk for tomorrow. The flood watch is in effect until 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Do not drive through flooded roadways! Rain continues into the overnight and Wednesday. We are looking at a long-duration rain event, which can lead to an increased risk of flooding. The sewer system is only designed to handle up to 1.75 inches of rainfall per hour. In downpours, these rainfall rates can be more than 3 inches per hour. This is why we can so quickly see flash flooding occurring.
