A 17-year-old student is accused of bringing a loaded gun into Uniondale High School, according to Nassau police.

Officials say the weapon was discovered Wednesday morning when the student went through the school’s metal detector. Security staff found the loaded gun inside a backpack, quickly detained the student and confiscated the weapon.

Police were immediately called to the school.

The Uniondale School District confirmed the incident and said safety protocols were followed.

One student told News 12 the school went into a soft lockdown Wednesday morning as a precaution.

Authorities have not yet released further details about possible charges.
