Two men have died after a high-speed crash late Sunday night in Sheepshead Bay, and police say the driver involved is still on the run. It happened around 11:30 p.m. near Shore Parkway and East 7th Street. Investigators say a white Mercedes and a motorcycle were coming off the Belt Parkway at a high speed when they collided and hit three parked cars.
Police now confirm the 22-year-old man who was riding the motorcycle and a 28-year-old man who was a passenger in the Mercedes both died from their injuries. Video from the scene shows the Mercedes flipped on its roof with airbags deployed and debris scattered across the crosswalk. The motorcycle was crushed nearby. Police say the driver of the Mercedes ran off after the crash and has not been found. The NYPD’s Highway Patrol is leading the investigation to determine what caused the collision. Family members of one of the victims showed up at the scene early Monday morning but declined to speak on camera.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
