Today was warm for March. High temperatures reached the upper 50s to the mid-60s across the North Shore, while communities closer to the South Shore remain a bit cooler - in the 50s thanks to the ocean influence. A few scattered showers will develop late in the afternoon and toward the evening commute and it becomes breezy at the same time. There is even a slight chance of a thunderstorm this evening and overnight as a strong cold front approaches. Temperatures will stay fairly mild for this time of year, dropping only into the 40s by morning.

Thursday starts off with periods of rain showers during the morning. Temperatures in the low to mid-50s early in the day, but colder air will push in through the afternoon. As readings fall into the upper 30s by around 5 p.m., some of those rain showers may mix with wet snow showers before tapering off. By Friday, the system pulls away, bringing partly sunny skies, breezy conditions, and a colder feel with afternoon highs mainly in the 40s.

Rest of today: Mostly cloudy this afternoon. A few rain showers this evening. Highs near 60 degrees, 50s along the shorelines. Areas of northwest Nassau will see 60 to 65. Light south wind increasing to 10 to 15 mph.

Tonight: Cloudy skies with some scattered showers and areas of fog. Chance of a thunderstorm. Lows in the 40s. South wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Thursday: Rain showers likely before noon, then rain and snow showers. Cloudy, with a temperature rising to near 50 by 9 a.m., then falling to the upper 30s during the remainder of the day. Northwest wind 15 to 30 mph. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 30. Northwest wind 5to 10 mph.

Friday: Increasing clouds, with a high near 46. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south 13 to 18 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 36.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 48.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30.
