MORE SNOW COMING?!
We have just under 60 inches of snow for the entire winter season at Islip MacArthur Airport so far - nearly half of which came from the Blizzard of 2026 earlier this week, but yes - winter is not completely over just yet. I know that can be difficult to hear, but we will get through it!
WEDNESDAY MORNING SNOW AND RAIN: A mix of steady snow and some rain will move through Long Island from around 3 a.m. to noon. Even though temperatures are expected to be above freezing, this can cause a slushy new coating to one inch of snow and make things even more slippery than it already is. Please use extra caution in the morning!
THURSDAY P.M. SNOW CHANCE LOWERING: While we cannot rule out a period of light snow moving in for Thursday evening, the latest trends are showing very light amounts for Long Island, possibly even a complete miss. Our current forecast of another coating to two inches Thursday evening remains unchanged for now, but if the more southerly trends continue, we will be able to lower expectations for snow on Thursday and have a better weather day overall. We will know more about that by Wednesday morning.
ANOTHER STORM EARLY NEXT WEEK? There is another winter storm threat in the Monday or Tuesday timeframe next week. Nothing with that chance is locked in right now, but that is the next time period we are keeping an eye on for any additional significant snow. We will know much more about whether or not that is a legitimate threat to Long Island by Thursday and Friday of this week - keep checking back for updates!
NICE FRIDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND: Expect more snow melting and nice weather Friday, Saturday and Sunday. High temperatures will be in the upper 30s to mid-40s with some refreezing overnight.
POST-BLIZZARD SAFETY: Please continue to be careful with areas of snow and ice on the ground. Each day going forward there will be warm enough daytime temperatures to allow for snow melt and cold enough overnight temperatures to cause refreezing and black ice. This pattern will continue for quite some time. Below you will find a few additional things to watch out for following such a big storm.
EXTENDED FORECAST:
TONIGHT: Icy travel continues following the Blizzard of 2026. Please use caution. Clouds increase. Temperatures will hit a low of close to 20 degrees and then rise after midnight. A period of snow, mixing with rain will arrive after 4 a.m. Wednesday.
WEDNESDAY: STORM WATCH — Periods of snow, mixing with rain at times, can cause additional slippery travel during the morning hours. A coating to one inch of new snow is possible. Breaks of sun develop in the afternoon. Highs around 40 degrees with some snow melt. Lows near 29 degrees with refreezing into Thursday morning.
THURSDAY: Becoming mostly cloudy again. While there is a chance for another period of light snow developing into the evening hours, that chance looks to be lowering. As of now, a worst case would be up to two inches of new snow, but if the latest more south trends continue the weather will be drier on Long Island. We will know more on Wednesday. Highs around 38 degrees. Lows near 28 degrees.
FRIDAY: Sun and clouds. Highs around 36 degrees. Lows near 27 degrees.
SATURDAY: Sun and clouds. Highs around 42 degrees. Lows near 30 degrees.
SUNDAY: Sun and clouds. Highs around 39 degrees. Lows near 18 degrees.
MONDAY: Storm chance. Increasing clouds with the chance for snow developing. The News 12 Storm Watch Team will know more information on whether a storm will actually impact Long Island by Thursday. Highs around 30 degrees. Lows near 22 degrees.
TUESDAY: Storm chance. Snow and even some mix possible, ending throughout the day if it occurs. Highs around 32 degrees. Lows near 28 degrees.
Have a great night!
