Bitter Blast: Dangerous cold moves in as cleanup from up to 8 inches of snow continues across the lower Hudson Valley

Please dress in layers and use extreme caution when traveling as icy areas can linger for most of this week.

Our latest snowstorm is over, but this next round of bitter cold here through midweek will be the worst one yet this season! Any snow that does not get cleaned up quickly will eventually turn into a sheet of ice. Please use caution when cleaning up any snow, dress in layers and take frequent breaks from the extreme cold. You can start to experience frostbite conditions in around 30 minutes or less if you are not taking proper precautions and limited exposure to the cold weather.
Snow totals across the lower Hudson Valley from yesterday's storm averaged around four to eight inches north of I-287. South of I-287 in Westchester County, totals definitely ended up on the lower end - around two to four inches on average there.
My second biggest concern other than the cold weather this week is about the icy conditions that will linger for several days. The colder below 20 degrees it gets, the more ineffective traditional salting is against ice. Please use caution all day and night through the end of the week with areas of black ice lingering.
On this Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and Inauguration Day, expect a mix of sun and clouds. Highs will only be around 24 degrees, but wind chills will be in the teens at best. Blowing snow can reduce visibility at times with a northwest wind around 10 to 20 mph.
The worst cold this week will be from tonight through Thursday morning. Lows tonight will be in the single digits with wind chills below zero at times. Wind chills for Tuesday and Wednesday will be around 10 degrees at best. Dry weather will continue through the end of the week.
When does it warm up?! Temperatures start to rise a little on Thursday, but it is still very cold with highs in the 20s. Friday and Saturday will be in the low 30s. By Sunday, temperatures finally get back to more seasonable levels in the upper 30s. Dry weather is expected through at least the start of Sunday with some storms staying offshore this week. If anything, there can be some mixed showers by Sunday evening with high temperatures in the upper 30s to low 40s through the middle of next week.
Please stay safe in the cold and cleaning up from the snow and have a great Monday!
