WEATHER ALERTS

The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for Nassau County from 11 p.m. tonight until 9 a.m. Thursday. Protect any sensitive plants and vegetation with temperatures dropping down into the lower to middle 30s tonight. This applies to both Nassau and Suffolk counties, even though there is not a frost advisory for Suffolk County. The reason for this is that the official growing season begins on April 11 in Suffolk County, while it started on April 1 in Nassau County. Frost and freeze advisories, watches and warnings directly correlate to agricultural and infrastructure protection, but yes - it also means you should dress warmly again through Thursday morning.

COLD OVERNIGHT INTO THURSDAY A.M.

A clear sky along with light wind will help to allow temperatures to drop down into the lower 30s tonight, and cause frost to form into Thursday morning. If you are getting an early start, you will need a few extra minutes to warm up the car. It will stay mostly sunny into Thursday morning and will start to feel a bit less cold by mid-morning. Dress warmly overnight!

ANOTHER DECENT DAY THURSDAY

After a cold start to the day, there will be a slight chill in the afternoon, but it will feel a little better than it did today. Highs will be more in the lower 50s with some 40s still for the South Shore and East End. The entire day is dry with just some passing clouds in the afternoon and evening along with a light breeze out of the southeast around 5 to 15 mph.

WARMING TREND ON THE WAY

While temperatures will still vary a bit day-to-day over the next 10 days, there is more of a warmer trend into next week compared to the chilly start this week. Temperatures across most of Long Island will be more seasonable by Friday - in the middle to upper 50s. It will be warmer on Saturday - upper 50s to middle 60s for most. Then, Sunday will cool back down into the lower to middle 50s. After that, it will be a very warm start next week, especially for Nassau County and western Suffolk County, where high temperatures will easily be in the 60s to middle 70s. There is a chance that parts of Nassau County get near 80 degrees next Tuesday. After that, temperatures cool back down into the upper 50s to low 60s for the end of next week.

LIMITED RAIN CHANCES

You never want too many dry days strung together because eventually that will lead to an increased drought risk, but for the time being, enjoy the dry stretch we are in! There are abnormally dry conditions on Long Island, but no drought at this time. There will be a brief rain shower before 7 a.m. Saturday morning and then a few spotty rain shower chances next week, but there are no significant storms that we are watching at this time.
