WHAT TO KNOW
The weather for Memorial Day Weekend will feel more like November than May. Instead of sunshine and warmth, expect cloudy, damp and unusually cool weather with the heaviest rain setting up Saturday night through Sunday morning.
A high surf advisory will be in effect for all of the South Shore beaches from early Sunday morning until 9 p.m. Wave heights are expected to be from 8 to 13 feet throughout the day.
FORECAST
Overnight Rain will continue with a brief break overnight ahead of more rain that could be heavy by early Sunday morning. Temperatures will remain in the 50s, but the raw feeling will continue into Sunday morning.
Sunday The heaviest rain arrives on Sunday, with heavy rain and gusty wind expected early, becoming light rain with less wind later in the day. High temperatures will struggle to hit 60.
Monday - Memorial Day Memorial Day brings a slight improvement, but clouds remain the dominant feature. Rain is expected in the morning but will become more scattered later in the day. Temperatures trend warmer, climbing into the upper 70s, but the day still leans more partly to mostly cloudy.
Marine Forecast Marine conditions around Long Island will be poor for both boaters and beachgoers this weekend. A strong easterly wind will create rough waters across the Atlantic Ocean, the Long Island Sound and the Hampton Bays, with waves building on the Sound to around 4 to 6 feet and even larger surf along the ocean. Gusts near 30 knots, periods of steady rain and reduced visibility will make for hazardous navigation, with small craft advisories in effect. Rough surf and a high rip current risk will also make the ocean unsafe for swimming. Conditions begin to slowly improve on Memorial Day as winds ease, but the weather remains unsettled early before calmer conditions arrive later.
