State lawmakers are stepping back from a proposal that would fine theaters for not warning moviegoers about delayed start times.

The bill would have imposed a $500 fine on theaters that failed to post signs alerting customers that films may begin after previews.

The proposal drew international attention but was criticized by theater owners as a logistical burden.

On Wednesday, the state Senate approved a working group to study the issue instead.
