Well, it's time for Main Street, Connecticut. We have a Thursday edition this week, a chance to showcase our local towns and cities and all they have to offer. This week we're in Stamford, News 12 Connecticut's Mark Sudall joins us from Harvard Ave with more from the Stanford Diner. Mark. Hey, Becky, yeah, this is a great place. You've been here. A lot of us have been here. You know this is really a great spot. Look, the weather is going to be crappy in the next couple of days if you're in the area. Of 95 takes it 6. You'll get right here. You'll love it. Trust me, Laura O'Brien is here. She's always that smiling face when you walk in the door here. Thank you so much for being with us. You also have a couple of locations in Stamford. And where's that? We have all the food and beverage on Sterling Farms. We have the Royal Green up there and the distillery, and you've been on the Food Network as well, yes, yes. Guy Fieri was here for Triple D about 2 years ago, featured the masso ball soup and the hot open turkey and just great experience, great. That is awesome. So I mean this place has been around for a couple of decades now. What makes this place so special? It's a family feel, great food, great service, and people come back here because they feel like they're in their second home. And you got uh Lloyd Bridges look alike right behind you. Only us older folks will know who that is. Now you've got some amazing food out here. You said you didn't want to do the traditional breakfast. You wanted us to try some different things. So tell us about what you have here. Well, we're very diverse. I mean, you could come in at 8 o'clock in the morning and get a burger, and 10 o'clock at night you can get pancakes, right? So there's something for everybody. We have great pasta fresca here. Our cannoli French toast is extremely popular. Your traditional turkey club, and we have a grown up grilled cheese, a little bit more sophisticated than your American cheese on white bread, right? And one of my favorites, the chorizo and egg quesadilla for breakfast. It's excellent. Um, you know, I've, I've had your turkey club, and I'm, and I'm gonna kind of start with that. I, I, I grabbed the ketchup because I, I wanted it for the fries. We, we, we roast our turkey breasts every morning. Are you kidding me? No, I didn't realize that. Yes. All right, let's see what we got going here. I mean, and it's huge. I mean, you got the whole deal going here with the bacon, tomato, the lettuce. Look at that. Look at that turkey. Kenny, get in on, on that turkey. I mean, look at that. Beautiful. Mm. Oh, It's so good. She's like, please, take a napkin, will you? Please. Um, how am I gonna get to all this in 30 seconds? I can't, but we're gonna try this on social media, right? on social media and do some of this, and, um, well, thank you so much for being with us. It's our pleasure to have you. As I'm talking with my mouth full, my mother is rolling over her grave right now. Becky, coming up in our next hour we're going to be. Well, it's time for Main Street, Connecticut, a special Thursday edition for you this week, a chance to showcase our local towns and cities that all they have to offer. This week we're in Stamford. News Connecticut's Mark Sudall joins us from the Palace Theater. Mark. Hey, Becky, you know, the palace has so many great things going on. Yo Yo Ma is gonna be here this week and I've been looking around, but I guess he's not coming in until Saturday. Michael Stern, the musical director, is here with us this morning. Thank you so much for the time. This is a big get Yo Yo Ma, world renowned cellist. Well, Orchestra Lumos, um, has a tradition of getting really great soloists. Um, we've had all sorts of people, Joshua Bell, Midori, Pincus Zuckerman, Jeffrey Kahane, um, and of course Yo Yo Ma is right up there on the list, and, uh, what thrills me is that we have this potential for music across Fairfield County at the highest possible level. And of course Yo Yo Ma, every time he gives a concert, it's an event. It's a special event and so we are very excited to be able to close our season with this really exceptional concert. And of course while we're here, tell us about the orchestra. Well, the orchestra used to be the Stanford Symphony. We rebranded because we wanted to make the case that we are just not, not just the orchestra for Stanford, but for the entire. Uh, region all the communities they're in, we go in small space concerts to 7 different towns and you know all of our players are teachers and there is this idea that music is service, right, and we are trying to serve through art, through culture through music as many communities as we can. I mean, I think especially in in this moment in our national conversation. Culture and the arts and music matter more than ever before and what we're trying to do is raise the bar and you know uh having somebody like Yo Yo Ma is a testament to that and look, you have so many different types of shows and. Music genres here from Yo Yo Mata, Kool and the Gang. Oh, absolutely. So tell us, uh, with the season ending now, what can we look forward to next year? Well, next year, as you may know, uh, we are marking the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and our season not exclusively but is certainly focusing on the American experience, um, and each concert has a different perspective on that idea. We have not one but 2 world premieres next year, a wonderful new piano concerto by Jonathan Leshoff that Joyce Yang is gonna play. She's a phenomenal pianist, one of the most brilliant pianists playing in front of the public today. And what really excites me in our last concert, not only are we doing the Rhapsody in Blue, the famous Rapsody in Blue by Gershwin, but a new commissioned piece called Five American Portraits which is being written by 5 extraordinary and very different composers who are coming together to write this one work on the American experience. Uh, each one of them is is focusing on one person or one thing that changed America, and I think this is. It's a unique project. I don't know any other musical venture like this, but it's really going to be something extraordinary and exciting. We're looking forward to that. You guys do an amazing job.
