A Bridgeport softball league hosted a pool tournament Saturday as part of an effort to become a nonprofit and help the community.
The Roberto Clemente Old Timers Softball held the event at their club on Connecticut Avenue.
Organizers say the money raised will help the league, known for its softball games at Went Field Park, cover the fees to become a nonprofit.
Once that happens, their goal is to create an academic scholarship.
"The point of the scholarship is to try to help underprivileged kids. Anyone who is doing excellent in high school, going into college, and try to and help them out a little bit any way we can," said Nelson Dones.
