Consumers nationwide protested high prices and “corporate greed” on Friday with an “economic boycott.”
The boycott calls for people not to spend any money at big chains on Friday and instead only make cash purchases of necessity items at local businesses.
The boycott gained traction online, with influencers and celebrities promoting the cause.
The 24-hour boycott targets major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Target and fast-food companies like McDonald's.
The boycott also targets companies that have rolled back diversity, equity and inclusion programs in the wake of the Trump administration eliminating federal DEI programs since taking office.
