We'll break out your green layer up and head to the Jersey Shore Sunday for the state's unofficial kick off this spring. The preparations for the Belmar, Lake Como St. Patrick's Day parade start now on Main Street. It's where we find News 12 New Jersey's Jim Murdoch this morning. Yeah, we have a picture of you, Jim right here. You've been a part of this event for more than 40 years. Look at you. Oh my goodness, so cute in that picture. Some of the best memories I had with my family right here on Main Street. That picture I don't remember. I think I was only about 2.5 years old. That was from March of 1981, believe it or not, but I am joined by Katie and Jody, a couple of Belmar council members, and Katie, you and I have something in common. You also marched in the parade growing up, yeah, with different dance companies. In our little league, we all dance in the. We all walk in the parade, and it's a great hometown tradition. And how exciting is this coming back 52 years in a row. It's amazing. We want to keep it going for a straight 100 years or more. Jody, the sunshine out here this morning glorious. I think we're going to have the same amount of sun come Sunday. We are supposed to have a sunny day, but get ready. It's going to be a little chilly on Sunday, so make sure you bundle up. What? Makes this parade stand out? Well, first of all, it's the first parade in New Jersey, so it's one of the biggest, and I think everybody loves to come to the Jersey shore. So it's just always been a really, really well attended big parade. All right, thank you ladies. Again, one more time, let's have our Belma or St. Rose High School, the pipes and drums. Yeah, we could kind of call him an unofficial expert to this because look at this picture of him. He's been part of this event for more than 40 years. Look how cute you love this parade. Look how cute what happened. That's what I want to know. Another great tradition of the St. Patrick's Day paragra is the painting of Main Street. So let's start that now as we bring back in parade chairman Chip Cavanaugh. Chip, this is always one of the most fun events all week. It is. It's great. It's the kickoff of the parade, always to paint this green line. How many people are we expecting here right in front of Piano Plaza? There could be quite a few crowds because the reviewing stand is here. And the plaza gets full, so I would say probably a couple 1000 people could be right here. That's incredible. And folks watching, if you've been with us all morning, you've heard the sights and the sounds of the St. Rose High School pipes and drums, and right now I want to bring in Anthony. You are the pipe major. You're a junior, and what is carrying around the bagpipes do to your clout this time of year? It's overall really great because you get a lot of experiences and it's overall a great time, especially with the praises and the overall atmosphere of all of them. Uh, it's, you become the center of attention wherever you go. Yeah. Well, thank you so much guys. Again, the parade steps off 12:30 Sunday in Lake Como, then works its way north toward the Avon Bridge. You want to be here, take mass transit. It's going to be a good time. Thanks guys.
