Explosives and a second body were discovered at Stamford home where an
hourslong standoff occurred Tuesday, police say.
Police say
Jed Parkington, who barricaded himself in his home, died by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot at 263 Oaklawn Ave.
Chief Timothy Shaw says the second body was found on the second floor of the home and appeared to be decomposing.
The incident began at 9:44 a.m. Tuesday, and police made multiple attempts to communicate with Parkington.
Parkington shot at two Bearcat vehicles as police approached the home, hitting multiple parts of the vehicle including its windows.
Shaw said at one point officers heard a single gunshot come from inside the home.
Authorities say they used drones to confirm that Parkington killed himself.
The drones allowed officers to find explosives throughout the home, which included pipe bombs and grenades. The Stamford Bomb Squad was called in following the discovery.
Shaw says the second body was discovered during the search for explosives.
The home has been cleared of explosives.
Stamford police will oversee the investigation into the second body.
