If there’s a New Jersey Transit strike on May 16, the PATH Train will be an obvious alternative for commuters who need to get to New York City for work.
But regular riders on PATH say that there will be a strain on the system in the event of a strike that the Port Authority will have to accommodate for.
The Port Authority says that 194,000 people ride the PATH system daily.
To help all of those extra riders filing over from New Jersey Transit, trains will likely need to be added.
NJ Transit would bus some commuters directly from the Woodbridge Center Mall to the Harrison PATH Station.
Regular riders in Harrison say it would be helpful to bring in more trains that arrive at stations more frequently than every 20 minutes. Harrison riders tell News 12 that their PATH trains are already full.

Commuter Jean Amorim says she rides the PATH six days a week.
“Right now, we don’t have enough trains. And if you have more riders, we need like double trains,” she says.
“I think for the early morning commute, it could create a problem where people are not going to be able to possibly get on the train or definitely not get a seat,” added Stephanie Hall, a commuter from Nutley who used PATH five days a week.
Some commuters tell News 12 that they will stay clear of driving to Manhattan because of the traffic and congestion pricing.
Others say they’ll be talking with their boss about possibly working more from home.
The Port Authority is expected to release a detailed contingency plan before the week ends.
