A City Council report has revealed that The Bronx leads the city in detected ghost plates.
The report, entitled Plate and Switch, states that investigators surveyed over 3,500 parked vehicles across the five boroughs. 768 of them did not have New York plates.
One in five of those vehicles had ghost plates and The Bronx had the highest number with a total of 75 detected.
Drivers using ghost plates can avoid traffic tickets, tolls and accountability for crimes.
The investigation also confirmed that cars with illegal plates committed more traffic violations than vehicles with matching out-of-state plates.
