A 30-year-old man driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle lost control and collided with the rear of an empty dump truck.
Video shows what looks like the driver speeding down Classon Avenue, off Atlantic Avenue, just past 3 a.m. Thursday.
EMS took the man to NYC Health+Hospitals/Kings County, where he was pronounced dead.
Community members say the stretch of Atlantic Avenue is plagued with reckless driving.
"Trucks and cars will fly around this corner, it's a dangerous one," said Robert Greenwood, who works at a prop making shop near the crash site. "We're always worried about something like this-- it's a tight corner, a very busy corner."
The crash is another deadly reminder of just how dangerous this stretch of road can be. According to city data, Atlantic Avenue has some of the most dangerous intersections across the boroughs. In the last five years, at least 10 fatal crashes were reported, with almost 100 people left with either injuries or dead.
A revision plan for Atlantic Avenue was passed by the City Council back in May, which will soon create curb extensions to improve visibility along the corridor.
Regardless, the mayor's office acknowledges the plan could only do some much.
"Even if this redesign was implemented, this cyclist could’ve still lost control and hit a parked truck," said the mayor's office.
News 12 reached out to the Department of Transportation to find out if it plans to make any further safety changes along Atlantic Avenue, but it has not yet responded.
