Some residents say rats have taken over Transmitter Park, and the problem has been ongoing for years.
A photo posted on Reddit recently brought new attention to the issue, showing rat dens in the park’s pollination area.
“They live mostly underground because you see a lot of holes,” one longtime Greenpoint resident said.
Following News 12's inquiry, the city Parks Department sent a worker out to the area. News 12 observed him placing blue pellets in the dens.
A spokesperson said the department regularly maintains the park with rodent-resistant trash cans and an enclosure for trash bags outside the park.
        However, some residents remain skeptical.
“I don’t know if they can fix this problem because there’s just too much food around,” one resident said.
