Twelve Haviland Middle School students were on a school bus that was involved in a crash, according to the Hyde Park Schools superintendent.
Hyde Park Central School District Superintendent Dr. Pedro Roman says the students and the bus driver were sent to nearby hospitals for evaluation, out of an abundance of caution. He says no one on the bus was seriously hurt.
"We want to thank the Roosevelt and Hyde Park Fire Departments, Hyde Park Police, NYS Troopers, Northern Dutchess Paramedics and the Dutchess County Emergency Response Team for their expedited response and coordination to ensure our students, bus driver, and community citizens were safe and received the medical attention needed," says Roman.
The crash, which involved at least one other car, happened around 3 p.m. on Albany Post Road by Ledges Drive in Hyde Park.
"We heard sirens for quite a few minutes and then it was silent. Then, we had a state trooper diverting traffic and blocking off the road," says Bella Diehl who works nearby.
The road was shut down for hours as police investigated.
There is no word yet on what caused the crash or if anyone in the other car involved was injured.
News 12 has reached to Hyde Park Police, we have yet to hear back.
