TONIGHT'S SHOWERS AND ICY SPOTS THURSDAY MORNING
Keep an umbrella with you this evening as light rain and drizzle continue in most areas. Patchy areas of fog continue to reduce visibility at times. Rain showers will mostly taper off before midnight, but watch out for icy spots into Thursday morning as some areas, especially in Suffolk County, can get down to around 32 degrees. This can cause icy spots to develop into the first part of the Thursday morning commute from refreezing of the wet ground from the fog and rain we had today.
SOAKING RAIN LIKELY FRIDAY MORNING
You may want to think about budgeting extra travel time on Friday morning. We will have a round of steady, moderate to sometimes heavy rain from around 3 a.m. to 1 p.m. While we do not anticipate major flooding, there will be some larger puddles to watch out for from melting snow and the around half an inch to three-quarters of an inch of rain we get. Friday afternoon looks cloudy, but better with just a few spotty lingering showers and high temperatures near 40 degrees.
WINTER STORM EARLY NEXT WEEK?
The latest trends suggest that if Long Island is going to have impacts from a coastal storm early next week, it would be in the Sunday night through Monday morning timeframe. We are still four days away and there is still a wide range of storm tracks on the table. A track that makes this more of a miss for Long Island is very plausible, but equally as plausible is a track that gives us several inches of snow.
We are watching it very closely for you, and we will have a better idea of the track and if the storm will give us local impacts by Thursday night into Friday morning. If we need to issue a snow map, we will do so by Friday and will provide the latest, most reliable information for you on-air, on social media and on the News 12 app. At this time, we are not forecasting a major storm, but that can change depending on the ultimate storm track and intensity.
MOST ENJOYABLE WEATHER DAYS COMING UP
Most of Thursday will be decent, but expect a mostly cloudy day overall with high temperatures around 40 degrees. The best chance for more breaks of sun will be across eastern Suffolk County. Saturday will also end up being a decent day with highs in the low 40s and a mostly cloudy to partly sunny sky.
BEYOND MONDAY'S STORM CHANCE
The rest of next week will feature highs in the 30s through Tuesday. Temperatures return to the 40s on Wednesday and through the end of the week, with some shower chances returning by the end of next week.
Have a great night!
